WHY DO I NEED A TISSUE (GUM) GRAFT?

Gingival recession is caused by inflammation resulting from periodontal disease and aggressive tooth brushing. Tooth crowding and orthodontic treatment can result in recession. Gingival recession is proportional to underling bone loss. Gingival recession can result in tooth sensitivity and inflamed gingival tissue which can lead to further bone loss, and gingival recession. Severe recession, if left untreated may progress to eventual tooth loss. Dr. Cook can identify the cause of the gingival recession and help you improve your oral hygiene habits to avoid future problems. A soft tissue graft can improve the sensitivity, decrease the inflammation, and increase the prognosis for tooth and implant survival.
